Thormann's anthropomorphic images conjour up a liminal eroticism with roots in the uncanny work of Wols and Hans Bellmer.

Thormann was born September 26, 1944 in Graz, Austria, but lives and works in Stockholm, Sweden. He attended the Stockholm School of Photography and has been a freelance photographer since 1970. His work was included in the exhibitions: The Frozen Image: Scandinavian Photography at the Minneapolis Walker Art Center; and Prospect 96: Photography in Contemporary Art at the Frankfurter Kunstverein in the Weiermair.
